WSJ Editorial on NeoCons

"Neoconservative" and "neocon" have become terms of abuse, denoting right-wing extremism. But the original neoconservatives began mostly as left-leaning intellectuals who only deserted the Democratic Party after it fell under the influence of the counterculture during the Vietnam War. With Barack Obama about to become president, is there any chance neoconservatives will finally return to the roost?Continue

Austrian Economic Cycle

Wikipedia describes the Austrian Business Cycle Theory in this article. It's not eactly how I learned it, but it's close enough. I'll do a full post on this later when I'm not at work.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_theory_of_the_business_cycle

The article cites Ludwig von Mises as the author of this theory. He might have been its 'father' but it has been since perfected. The cycle h

Let's Define Libertarian

Libertarianism is a term used by a broad spectrum of political philosophies which prioritize individual liberty and seek to minimize or even abolish the state. The definition of libertarian in a political sense is a contentious issue and there is no single principle or set of principles on which all libertarians would agree. The proper role of government is described from a number of different metaphysical, epistemological, and moral viewpoints. 'Libertarian' is an antonym o

This is The South Park Republic, the only place to find the unique worldview of Keith Pulito, as well as your place to share your opinions on politics and the world today.

Watch this video before you attempt to talk about American politics:
> Your world will change when you are ready to pronounce this oath: I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine.
-John Galt in Atlas Shrugged

In 2001, internet think-tank, Tech Central Station first popularized the phrase, “South Park Republican” to describe a new generation of young fiscal conservatives. According to TCS, the typical SPR was born in the 80’s and shares Ayn Randian philosophies such as individual freedom and rational self-interest while asserting that most social issues are better left alone by the government. Likewise, religion, superstition and prejudice do not influence the political trajectory of an SPR.

Since the government has never done anything right and is corrupt by its very definition, it is best given as little power as possible. This means anything like universal healthcare is sure to fail, and any “nanny-state” is sure to collapse in on itself. Social security, Jimmy Carter’s administration and Katrina are just a few of the many examples of government failures.

As South Park co-creator, Matt Stone said, “I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals.” South Park is known for its crude language and sense of humor, but it is not known for its social commentary. Genius is never found where you expect it to be.

Welcome to The South Park Republic.

I find this chart misleading, because it implies that there is always a difference between personal and economic freedom. Often, the two go together, almost as the same exact thing.

Coming soon! The USSA!

I don't want to hear any Obama supporters complaining about Bush's legacy of debt. George W. Bush was a leftist, but Obama is a socialist.

Remember When Thinking Was Cool?

I have come to the conclusion that at some point in history it became un-cool to be intelligent. It may have happened recently when I wasn’t paying attention, or earlier in my life when I was too young to notice. It may have happened in the 20th century, or, for all I know, it was never cool to be a thinker. So, if you want to be considered cool in 2009, don’t try and have an intellectual conversation with anyone (under any circumstances).

I was recently at one of my many part-time jobs talking… Continue

Capitalism

As we sit and watch history repeat itself yet again, let us recap what we have learned this time around.

Today's Lesson: Capitalism

It is not a system. A system implies control. Control is the opposite of freedom. Capitalism is economic freedom and economic freedom is not a system.

Capitalism has never existed. There has never been a true Capitalistic society. No government will sacrifice its own power for the betterment of its constituents. Government seeks power. There… Continue

what is capitalism?

The point is that capitalism works! You know, I know that's not real popular to say. And the enemies of free markets, property rights and individual freedom are pouring out of Washington and labor unions, even corporate America. And politicians are willing to give bailout money and unions and state governments and big businesses are lining up to get their share of the money. But who's got my back? Capitalism does. You don't just throw capitalism under the bus because it's popular. Capitalism def… Continue

The Traditional Linear Political Spectrum

This is from Wikipedia, under Left-right politics. I think it is an outdated model but the basic concepts hold true. The Nolan Chart is probably more useful, or any bi-axial chart which doesn't limit its variations to two sides. Like I said, today's lesson comes from Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt. A big chunk of salt.

The terms Left and Right have been used to refer to political affiliation since the early part of the French Revolutionary era. They originally referred to th… Continue

Change?

At what cost will Obama give us change? I was talking to my coworker today, and he is very verrrrry liberal. Actually, when I say he is liberal, I only say that because that's what he told me. He's really just a clueless 21 year old who follows what "everybody else" is doing. Anyway, he told me I was being entirely too selfish because I don't want to be taxed like hell and I don't want to share my hard earned money. He said it's my duty to share my money - I told him it's MY money and I give it… Continue

South Park Religion

Let me preface this rant by saying that I am an Agnostic. This means the jury is still out on the issue of God. Tomorrow, I might be a Muslim or a Buddhist, in which case, I will have to rewrite this blog post. Today, however, I am an Agnostic, and open to the teachings of any religion.

In the minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, both admitted Agnostics, religion can be good, and it can be bad.

First, let's talk about the bad, and get that out of the way. Theocracies are some of the worst tota… Continue

Church and State.

Many people do not understand where the phrase "separation of Church and State" came from. I wrote this paper for english class. I am Catholic, but I don't want to convert everyone to Catholicism, or even Christianity. I just want to be free to wear a cross in school, pray when I want to, and display a nativity scene in my front yard - That is not disturbing anyone else. And I couldn't care less if a Jewish person wanted to display a symbol that means something to them. People are so sensitive,… Continue

What is a Libertarian??

I don't really agree with conservatives on everything, and I definitely don't agree with liberals on everything. So I did a little research and I came to the conclusion that a lot of my beliefs would fall into this category:

http://flagspot.net/flags/us%7Dlib.html <--thanks for providing the following...

A thumbnail definition: In the U.S., the Libertarian Party denotes a belief that the powers of government should be very strictly limited, e.g. to foreign affairs, national defense, law… Continue

Voting in America

Alright, now I'm a firm believer in the simple fact that, if you don't vote then you have no right to express your opinion on how things are going because when the time came for you to express that opinion, you didn't feel the need to do so. Anyway, the other day I was talking to someone who attended college with me and in the same breath said he wanted a government with no say in what happens, make money and be happy, and what he described was a dictatorship. When I called him out on it, he sai… Continue

Terrorism

How should America deal with terrorism? Apparently people do not like Bush's approach, so what are some realistic alternatives?

Obsession: The Movie is an excellent documentary. It is not a documentary aimed at creating hate toward the Muslim religion..it is about the threat radical ideologies (ex: Nazism, Jihad...) pose to everybody. I think government exists for one reason: to protect it's people. If it is not protecting its people, then it is the duty of every responsible citizen to reform t… Continue

Today's American Tax System

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the… Continue

Why I'm Voting Democrat

Why I'm voting Democrat:

I'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America.

I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.

I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we'r… Continue
